Verify your setup
Run through these checks a few days after setup, or whenever the numbers look off. Each one is quick, and each one is a common reason for missing keywords.
Time: about 10 minutes · You need: access to the project in Keyword Hero and to your Google Analytics property
1. The right property and data stream
Section titled “1. The right property and data stream”Open the project’s Configure button and the first disc. Make sure that the property and data stream are the ones your website sends its traffic to. A staging stream or an old property gives you keywords for the wrong traffic.
2. Every Search Console property
Section titled “2. Every Search Console property”Open the third disc. Make sure that every hostname and protocol the website
runs on has a selected property: www. and the bare domain, https:// and
http://, and every subdomain. See Add Search
Console.
A missing one shows up in the reports as
(not provided)_subdomain_add_searchconsole.
3. The key events
Section titled “3. The key events”Open the second disc. Make sure that the key events you track are the ones that matter, and that ecommerce tracking is selected if your site uses it. See Track key events.
4. The plan covers your traffic
Section titled “4. The plan covers your traffic”Compare your organic sessions per month with your plan’s limit in Plans and limits. Sessions above the limit are not matched.
5. The Keyword Hero property exists
Section titled “5. The Keyword Hero property exists”In Google Analytics, make sure that the property Keyword Hero property (GA4) – your property name is still there and has not been renamed or moved. Keyword Hero uploads to it every day.
6. No filters rewrite your organic traffic
Section titled “6. No filters rewrite your organic traffic”Keyword Hero needs your Google Analytics data as Google collected it. A rule
that rewrites the source, medium or landing page of organic sessions, or that
replaces (not provided) with a page title, stops Keyword Hero from matching
those sessions.
Check it worked
Section titled “Check it worked”The match rate is the overall check. On most websites it reaches 70% within four weeks. If it stays below that, see Low match rate.
